3 Of The Best Wines For Wimbledon!
Jul 12, 2023
Nothing quite spells the start of summer like Wimbledon gracing our television screens once again and, no doubt, you’ve all been glued to the action for the last week or so… hopefully with some strawberries and cream on the go, and your favourite tipple close to hand.
Pairing drinks to your choice of activity is always a wonderful way to mark the occasion and to potentially try something new, bringing even more pleasure and enjoyment to proceedings.
Now, the two-week Wimbledon extravaganza is typically somewhat Pimms-focused, with a bit of gin on the side, but what about mixing it up this year with some beautifully crisp, summery wines instead?
A touch of sparkle is a must, of course, so why not sample our Exton Park Rosė, produced right here on English soil at a 55-acre estate in the heart of the South Downs National Park, just on the outskirts of Winchester.
This offering is the perfect accompaniment for a wide variety of light summer dishes, as well as going very well indeed with strawberry-based desserts, making it an ideal partner for the tennis.
As an alternative, hunt down a truly sumptuous dessert wine and you really can’t go wrong. We’re very partial ourselves to the Josefina Piñol 2015, a sweet red made from late harvested grapes and matured for 15 months in French and American oak barrels.
You’ll be impressed, no doubt, by its sweet nose and chocolate aromas, set against a backdrop of liquorice, coffee and some floral notes.
And, naturally, you can’t watch Wimbledon without at least one glass of champagne in hand, so what about taste-testing the Champagne Desboeufs ‘Brut’ Reserve, a drink well suited to any and all occasions. It has a well-balanced mouth feel and is incredibly lively and fresh, so a great choice for relaxing while enjoying an evening of exciting sport.
