Raise A Glass To Your Mum With These Top Mother’s Day Wines

Mother’s Day is approaching on 30 March, and what better way to celebrate your Mum than with a glass of wine! It’s the perfect accompaniment to Sunday lunch, or just to indulge while your Mum puts her feet up and watches her favourite film, or spends some quality relaxing time with loved ones.

Here are some suggestions for a wine that will suit her taste or perhaps introduce her to some new delights. If you can’t choose just one bottle or are organising a large family get together, then you might prefer to order a mixed wine case. This can be a great way to sample wines that she may not be familiar with, or you can order her firm favourites.

Raise a toast with sparkling wine

Mother’s Day calls for celebration and an indulgence in the luxuries of life, and what better way to do this than with a bottle of bubbly! If your Mum enjoys sparkling wines, then there are plenty of classic choices.

Champagne—It’s the ultimate drink for a special occasion, and also matches the season with a light refreshing taste and texture as we move into spring. If your Mum prefers crisp dry wines, then a classic bottle of Brut such as Beuve Clicquot will always go down well.

Maybe she prefers a sweeter touch, in which case a pretty pink rosé bottle of Champagne will fit the bill perfectly. The flavours are a pleasing blend of summer berries and herbs.

Prosecco—You can rarely go wrong with a bottle of Prosecco! It’s a light and fruity sparkling wine at an affordable price point, which can accompany seafood or snacks, or simply be enjoyed for some good old me-time to chill out on the sofa.

English sparkling wine—If you want to support domestic wine producers, it’s well worth exploring English sparkling wine, which is building up an international reputation.

Rosé

As the first hints of warmth are in the air, a rosé wine can provide the perfect way to capture the mood. It’s a light and elegant choice, with pleasant floral and fruity notes. The paler blush coloured rosés tend to have crisp refreshing flavours, while the deeper pink varieties are bolder and more complex.

Rosé wine is best enjoyed slightly chilled below room temperature, but not too cold: around 12-14°C is ideal.

White

White wine is the classic all-rounder; many varieties can be enjoyed either on their own or with most types of food. If you are looking for a white wine to accompany a Mother’s Day roast dinner, then go for a fuller bodied Chardonnay, which will balance out the stronger flavours and fatty meat textures well.

If you will be having lighter food such as fish or a vegetarian dish, then a bright and zesty Sauvignon Blanc is a great all-round choice.
